Bamberg County Circuit Court

Circuit Court vs Magistrate Court
Bamberg County court records should be sorted by jurisdiction before searching. Circuit Court is the higher general trial court. Magistrate Court and Municipal Courts are summary courts. Probate and Family Court are separate specialized courts. A traffic ticket, small claim, bond issue, municipal ordinance charge, estate, marriage license, or divorce does not become a Circuit Court file merely because it is a court record.

Bamberg County Appeals
Circuit Court has limited appellate jurisdiction over Probate, Magistrate, and Municipal Court appeals. Bamberg County Courthouse is listed at 2959 Main Highway, Bamberg, SC 29003. The county also uses the Bamberg County Courthouse Annex / Isaiah Odom Building at 1234 North Street, Bamberg, SC 29003, with mailing address PO Box 149, phone (803) 245-5191, and fax (803) 245-1219 in county contact blocks. A 2022 county notice stated that Clerk of Court and Probate Judge records-room operations were affected by relocation to a mobile unit, and later county court pages referenced Historic Courthouse staff operations in modular units at 448 Second Street near the Detention Center.
The historic courthouse has a strong local history. Bamberg County was created from Barnwell County in 1897, and county news states the historic courthouse was built that same year. It was designed by L.F. Goodrich and moved about 300 feet in 1950 after Highway 301's relocation affected the old location. Renovation and temporary office moves are not just history. They affect records access. Confirm the current office location, entrance rules, and parking before visiting the Clerk, Probate Court, Magistrate Court, or any courtroom.
